Spiced Sunrise Shake - warm, radiant and energising

Start your day grounded and glowing with this thick, golden blend of root ginger, turmeric, cinnamon and creamy avocado. Packed with protein, seeds, and a hint of rosemary. This Spiced Sunrise Shake is your nourishing morning companion. Perfect alongside eggs and toast, or savoured solo as a power-packed start to the day.

This is my newest smoothie and has become a morning staple. I find this useful if I’ve no time for a sit-down breakfast, which for me is normally my eggs and toast. Otherwise, I’ll have it after my extra-large eggs and toast. This keeps me sated and energised from 6.30am on whatever trip I’m out the door for early. Then 9.00am when home, I can finally have my eggs.

Often I add in a double expresso, especially if I’m on the move early or will be exercising within a couple of hours after breakfast.

Two factors affect whether I add in the expresso. Firstly, I definitely won’t add it if I'm too stressed or busy. Secondly,  I don’t include the expresso too often as, even now, my post menopausal body will be get the jitters. I’m mindful of my coffee intake since I had to give it up completely in perimenopause. So judge whether or not you use the expresso, according to your tolerance.

I also love the ginger and turmeric flavour that shines through this shake.

Ingredients:

Leaves from a small rosemary stalk (about 1 tbsp whole leaves)

8g root ginger

1/2 tsp turmeric powder (True brand)

1/2 tbsp chia seeds (True brand)

1/2 tbsp hulled hemp seeds (Linwoods)

1 tbsp Linseed mix of flaxseeds, almonds, brazil nuts, walnuts and CoQ10

50g frozen banana

50g frozen avocado

Pinch (approx. 1/8 tsp) cinnamon powder

400g minimum coconut milk (start with this, add more to your liking)

Double expresso (optional)

Get it ready

Add your ingredients to a high speed blender and whizz until smooth. Add in more milk if you want a liquid smoothie texture.

Spoon into your vessel of choice, bowl, glass. I love using my husband beer glasses, I like to make food fun and enjoyable. In a similar fashion I drink kombucha in a wine glass. Now, it’s your shake, so drink it your way.

For me, this is more wholesome and warming (even though cold!) when I leave it as a thick texture. Also I prefer to use a tablespoon to scoop it out. I don’t want to drink it off.

Use your favourite protein powder, I tend to use either plain whey or a vanilla plant based version (sweeter).

I've mentioned two brands, that's just to help you. I use Rude Health coconut milk as there is no nasty additives in it that could upset my precious gut.

I bought these ingredients so nothing to declare.

Enjoy!
